Entry List: http://www.regattatech.com/events/ECSA/WadawanuckMidget17/entries
ECSA participates in the Middle Atlantic Midget Championships each year along with seven other YRAs/SAs (Yacht Racing Associations/Sailing Associations). The YRAs/SAs take turns hosting the regatta on a rotating schedule:
2018 Eastern Long Island SA
2019 YRA of Long Island Sound
2020 Middle Atlantic YRA
2021 Great South Bay YRA
2022 North Jersey YRA
2023 Barnegat Bay YRA
Each Association may enter two boats in each of the single handed (Optimist) and double handed (Club 420 with spinnaker and trapeze) classes. These eliminations are open to all ECSA Midgets, with no restriction as to one per club. Sailors are eligible for “Midget” status if they are 15 years or younger on both days of the final event.
To determine which two boats represent ECSA in the Club 420 class, ECSA conducts a one-day elimination, sailed concurrently with the 420 fleet at the ECSA qualifier regatta noted on the schedule (Niantic Bay Junior Olympics for 2017). The top two Midget finishers qualify for the Middle Atlantic Midget Championships. If a qualifier cannot attend, the invitation to represent ECSA goes to the next finisher.
To determine which two boats represent ECSA in the Opti class, ECSA tabulates the lowest point total for skippers sailing at least five of the following eleven regattas: Watch Hill, Weekapaug, Sachem’s Head, Fishers Island, Niantic Bay, Pine Orchard, Ram Island, Madison Beach, Groton Long Point, and NESS/Wadawanuck. Scoring is based on overall fleet finishes, with 1 point for first, 2 for second, etc. A third in a small fleet counts the same as a third in a large fleet. Ties will be broken by the most first, seconds, thirds, etc. If a tie still remains, then who beat who in the last regatta both sailed will be the tie breaker. The two skippers with the lowest point totals qualify for the Middle Atlantic Championships. If a qualifier cannot attend, the invitation to represent ECSA goes to the skipper with the next lowest point total.
