*** VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR NEW ECSA JUNIOR BOARD ***

Now that we know what we know… we know we need help!  Huge thanks to Megan Raymond (Team Racing Coordinator), Josh Gleason (420 Scorer) and Harvey Demovick (Opti Scorer) for agreeing to stay on in the roles they started and to Abbie Park for taking on the Social Media Chair role.

We are looking for three volunteers to step up into the following board positions.  Please honestly consider helping, with just a bit more effort we can really make next summer special for our area kids.

Champion Chair – Help co-ordinate and advise qualified teams around the Midget Mid Atlantics, Midget Challenge, SUNY Challenge, Sears Cup, All Stars.

Coaches Chair – Coordinate and set up instructor training sessions and help clubs with job banks and referrals.

Awards Chair – Track down all those awards we gave out last summer!  Promote and oversea picking the winner of the Paul Risseeuw Sportsmanship Award, Coach of the Year, and Regatta of the Year awards.  Order and proof all the end of season trophies for next year’s banquet at Niantic Bay Yacht Club!

*** HIRING COACHES AND GUIDLINES ***

It’s the time of year where most program directors are wrapping up commitments and contracts with next year’s core staff.  *Suggestion – offer a bonus if coaches commit to you early  (it gets paid after they work the first week next year).

Around the ECSA the largest pool of instructors of course comes from our base of sailors.  This is not unique to just to our area, but what is VERY unique is that we all tend to hire kids that are 16, 17 or even 15 years old!  When these kids leave and start coaching it causes a real talent drain around our race courses.  At this year’s CJ Buckley National Team Racing Championship the average age of the top teams was 17 – average!  We had ONE 17 year old register in a 420 in the ECSA this year!

We understand programs need staff and these kids need jobs.  All we ask is that as a director, please try to promote the fact that your coaches CAN and SHOULD still race in the ECSA some and try to make your staffing able to accommodate that.  *Full time coaches cannot sail in the All Star regatta, but if they do not turn 19 before the end of the current year they are eligible to sail in ANY other ECSA event, including Team Racing for the club or association they belong to.

*** REST OF THE YEAR AHEAD ***

Please check out and share photos and videos at the new ECSA Facebook or Instagram pages.

Respectfully,

Brandon Flack

Interim ECSA Junior Chair
